What a dramatic conclusion to this year's Itzulia Basque Country. Stage 6 delivered everything fans could have hoped for on the final day of racing, with the brutal climb up Alto de Mañaria setting the stage for a thrilling showdown before the finish in Eibar.
The peloton was whittled down significantly on the early climbs as the general classification contenders made their moves felt. Attacks came from multiple directions as teams jostled for position and tried to destabilize their rivals before the final ascent.
On the slopes of Mañaria, it was Remco Evenepoel who launched a devastating acceleration that immediately split the lead group. The Soudal Quick-Step rider showed incredible power and climbing ability, going clear and building a gap that his rivals struggled to close. Primož Roglič, who had been among the overall favorites heading into the final stage, was unable to match the Belgian's pace at the crucial moment.
Evenepoel crested the summit with a clear advantage and managed his effort brilliantly on the descent and run into Eibar, crossing the finish line to claim a stunning stage victory. The win was not only a triumph on the day but also secured him the overall general classification title, capping a dominant and impressive performance throughout the week.
Roglič came home shortly after to claim second place on the stage, with the other contenders finishing behind. It was a fitting finale to a week of exceptional racing in the Basque Country, with Evenepoel proving himself once again as one of the most complete riders in the peloton.
