An individual time trial of 37.2 kilometres from Foligno to Perugia. That's the test the riders face on the seventh day of the Giro. They are to conquer an elevation gain of 380 metres, virtually all concentraded inside the last 7 kilometres.

Foligno hosted two sprint finishes on the Giro in the last decade. Nacer Bouhanni took the spoils in 2014, while Peter Sagan bested Fernando in 2021.

This time, the ancient town on the Topino River is the starting venue of a 37.2 kilometres long ITT. The roads are flat in the first 30 kilometres before the route climbs in fits and starts to the line Perugia. Firstly 1.3 kilometres at 10.7%, then a false flat, secondly 700 metres at 6.9%, and following a virtually flat kilometre the last 2 kilometres go up at 3%.

There are two intermediate time checks – at – kilometre 17.2 and at kilometre 30.7.

Perugia made its first appearance in the Giro d’Italia as far back as 1921. The monster race went to Cieti, where Costante Girardengo was the first rider to cross the line after 328 kilometres in the saddle. In fact, he won the first four stages of that edition. The man from Novi Ligure was the first rider to be declared a Campionissimo, which made sense as he won 30 Giro d’Italia stages and two times the GC, while his honour roll further includes 6 triumphs in Milan–Sanremo, 3 in Il Lombardia, and 9 Italian road race titles.
