Milan wins in Andora

At the start of the stage 4 of the Giro d'Italia, Francisco Muñoz attacked after 100 metres. Stefan de Bod, Lilian Calmejane, and Filippo Ganna tracked down the Spaniard before the quartet opened up a 1'30" minute advantage.

The lead never exceeded that gap, and Ganna ceased his efforts. The gap then extended to over 5 minutes.

Calmejane was the first attacker over the Colle del Melogno, while Fabio Jakobsen couldn't keep up with the pace in the peloton. The Dutch sprinter reached the summit 1'30" minutes behind the main group, but he managed to catch up after a long chase. Moments later, with 73 kilometres remaining, Calmejane stopped his efforts and waited for the peloton.

Biniam Girmay was one of the riders who went down in a crash before he hit the deck again in the chase. The Eritrean had to abandon the Giro d’Italia.

The two remaining leaders reached the coast 2'40" minutes ahead of the peloton. Their story ended inside the last 5 kilometres.

Ganna attacked on the Capo Mele. He reached the summit with a 6 second lead and continued to push, but the peloton didn't falter. The Italian was caught within the last 500 metres, and then Simone Consonni led out Jonathan Milan, who powered to a commanding victory. Kaden Groves finished second, with Phil Bauhaus third.

Tadej Pogacar kept a low profile this time to maintain the GC lead.
