Merlier claims final stage of the Giro, Pogacar coronated Giro king
Tim Merlier sprinted to victory in the Eternal City, outpowering Jonathan Milan and Kaden Groves. Tadej Pogacar sealed the overall victory, almost 10 minutes ahead of Daniel Felipe MartĂnez, who was second.
The race was a nail-biting affair, with the finishing circuit in Rome becoming the battleground. Ewen Costiou, Alex Baudin, Mikkel Honoré, and Martin Marcellusi raced 30 seconds ahead of the peloton for tens of kilometres, keeping the audience on the edge of their seats. The four were finally caught with 13 kilometres remaining.
Jonathan Milan suffered a mechanical issue in the last lap, but he made it back inside the last 3 kilometres.
Tim Merlier outpowered the Italian on the cobbled sprint in Rome, while Tadej Pogacar sealed his GC triumph.
