Milan Strikes Again
Jonathan Milan outsprinted Tim Merlier in Francavilla al Mare to take his second victory in the Giro d'Italia. Tadej Pogacar stayed safely in the lead of the general classification.
Edoardo Affini and Thomas Champion made a strategic move, launching the first attack, and Tim van Dijke cleverly bridged across in the opening stages of today's race. The trio managed to open up a lead of over two minutes - but that was all they got.
When the trio reached the Adriatic Sea, the gap had fallen to 1 minute. They were caught just before the last intermediate sprint, where Geraint Thomas gained 2 seconds.
In the ensuing bunch sprint, it was Jonathan Milan who powered to a dominant triumph. Tim Merlier finished in second, but he was relegated afterwards, and Kaden Groves moved up to second place. Tadej Pogacar finished safely in the pack to extend his lead on GC
