Roglic back on top

Primoz Roglic outgunned Giulio Ciccone to take the yellow jersey at Le Collet d'Allevard after a strong mountain-top lead-out by Aleksandr Vlasov, who finished third. The Slovenian is now in the yellow jersey, 19 seconds ahead of the overnight leader Remco Evenepoel.

Magnus Cort, Romain Grégoire, Thibault Guernalec, Arjen Livyns, Mason Hollyman, and Alessandro Fancellu established the breakaway early on. The six opened up a 6-minute lead in the approach to the Col du Granier.

The gap fell by two minutes on the climb before Guernalec and Hollyman lost contact after missing a corner. Guernalec made it back, Hollyman didn’t.

While the peloton closed in on the finish climb, Grégoire was the last man standing.

Laurens De Plus attacked from the peloton with five kilometres to climb. Aleksandr Vlasov went after him and the two gobbled up Grégoire.

Giulio Ciccone struck 3.5 kilometres from the finish with Primoz Roglic in his wheel. Derek Gee, Matteo Jorgenson, and Carlos Rodriguez followed the move a little later. Remco Evenepoel cracked.

The chasers came back on De Plus and Vlasov before the Russian went again with his leader Roglic and Ciccone.

Vlasov emptied the tank for Roglic, who accelerated in the last few hundred metres. Ciccone couldn't follow, and the Slovenian powered to the stage win and leader’s jersey.

Evenepoel crossed the line in 42 seconds later and dropped to second place, while Jorgenson remained third.
