Course Preview
At 173.2 kilometres, the 2nd stage of the Critérium du Dauphiné travels from Hauterives to a mountain top finish at Le Collet d'Allevard. The final climb ascends over 11.1 kilometres with an average gradient of 8.1%, featuring extended sections at double digits.
The first 120 kilometres takes place on rolling to lumpy roads. With its 1.6 kilometres at 6.7%, the Côte de La Côte-Saint-André stands out in this part of the race.
The longer climbs appear after the intermediate sprint in Les Echelles. Initially, the route goes either up or down for a couple of kilometres — sometimes rather steeply — before the Col du Granier presents a steady 8.9 kilometres at 5.4%. There are 45 kilometres left to race at the summit.
It starts with a descent into the Isère valley, and after following the river for 20 kilometres, the final climb kicks in. Le Collet d’Allevard is 11.1 kilometres long and averages 8.1%. The third kilometre rises at 10.6%, while a 3 kilometres stretch in the middle averages 9.5%. The last kilometre is steep as well, although it evens out to 4.5% in the final 100 metres.
The route from Hauterives to Le Collet d’Allevard includes an elevation gain of over 3,200 metres.
The first three riders at the finish gain time bonuses of 10, 6, and 4 seconds, while the intermediate sprint has 3, 2, and 1 seconds on offer.
