Kopecky on fire for gold

Lotte Kopecky (BEL) soloed to her first world championship road title in Glasgow after attacking Cecilie Ludwig (DEN) on the final climb on Montrose Street and holding her advantage to the line. Cecilie Ludwig (DEN) was edged out by a cramping Demi Vollering (NED) at the line for second place.

“It’s already been an amazing year and also a very hard year,” Kopecky said after the race. “It’s kind of a dream that comes true and I hope to enjoy riding in the rainbow jersey next year. “I thought after those two world titles on the track, it would be almost impossible to win again on Sunday. Three World Championships in seven days is too crazy,” Kopecky said. “I didn’t dream of this when I was a little girl, back then I just wanted to be competitive on the bike. I never knew I would become this good. That dream only came later.”

Ludwig was also pleased with her performance.

"It was such a hard race, one of the hardest I've done. I can't remember how many times I was vomiting. It was like a yo-yo - it was so cool to see so many people out on the course, it made it easier because you can't hear yourself think. This is how I like to race, and just going out there and attacking. It has been for me a bit of a tough year. I'm just very proud of how I raced - on my handlebar, my team mechanic wrote 'f*cking believe' - when it was tough, and I had to look at it many times, I had to just keep believing,"\n
