The Vuelta a España opens with a team time trial of 14.8 kilometres in Barcelona. The route is virtually flat.

The Spanish Grand Tour starts with a team time trial, so it is back to the familiar routine again. Jumbo-Visma won last year’s TTT in front of their roaring home crowds in Utrecht, the Netherlands. Robert Gesink savoured the moment as the Dutchman was the first rider in red of that edition.

The teams start near Barcelona’s Olympic Port and traverse a quick, technical circuit before finishing on the Avenida de la Reina Maria Cristina at the base of Montjuïc, the iconic mountain overlooking the city. The climb itself is saved for the 2nd stage.

The intermediate times will be taken at kilometre 5.2.
