2023 Tour of the Alps Stage 4 Results & Recap
Stage 4 of the 2023 Tour of the Alps is in the books. The final results and standings are below, followed by our recap of how the race unfolded.
Race Recap
The peloton tackled another demanding day in the mountains as Stage 4 of the Tour of the Alps delivered more spectacular racing through the Alpine terrain. The stage once again tested the climbers in the field, with the route featuring several challenging ascents that whittled down the lead group as the kilometers ticked by.
Geraint Thomas continued to demonstrate his strong form, further cementing his position as the dominant force in this year's race. The Ineos Grenadiers rider once again showed composure and climbing ability when it mattered most, and his overall lead at the top of the general classification remained secure heading into the final stage.
The day's racing saw attacks from various riders hoping to shake up the standings or at minimum claim a stage victory. The reduced front group on the final climb set the scene for a tense finish, with Thomas again proving difficult to crack under pressure from his rivals.
Brandon McNulty and others in contention were unable to wrest significant time away from the race leader, leaving the general classification picture largely unchanged. Thomas's Ineos team once again provided solid support throughout the stage, helping to control the pace and neutralize any dangerous moves before the key final climb.
With the penultimate stage now complete, Thomas heads into the final day of racing in a commanding position, looking every bit like the rider destined to claim overall victory at this year's Tour of the Alps.
