The final stage of the 2023 Tirreno-Adriatico has come to a close in San Benedetto del Tronto, and with it the race has crowned its overall champion. The traditional closing time trial along the Adriatic coast provided the perfect setting for a dramatic final day of racing.
Remco Evenepoel put in a dominant performance in the 10.1 kilometer time trial to claim the stage victory, demonstrating once again why he is considered one of the finest time trialists in the world. The Belgian champion powered his way along the flat coastal course with incredible efficiency and power, posting a time that none of his rivals were able to match.
The overall classification battle was intense heading into this final test, and Evenepoel's stage win was enough to secure the overall victory at the race as well, giving him a commanding end to the week of racing in Italy. His performance throughout the entire race was impressive, and the time trial victory served as the perfect punctuation mark on what was a superb week for the Soudal Quick-Step rider.
Jonas Vingegaard, who had been one of the key contenders throughout the week, finished in a strong position on the stage but was unable to deny Evenepoel the glory on this occasion. The racing along the Italian coast provided a thrilling finale to what had been an entertaining and competitive edition of the race, with Evenepoel ultimately proving to be the strongest rider across the seven stages.
