What a dramatic day of racing here at Tirreno-Adriatico as Stage 6 has delivered an absolute thriller. The stage, finishing atop the Prati di Tivo climb, has reshuffled the overall classification in significant fashion.
Primoz Roglic put in a commanding performance on the final ascent, attacking his rivals with the kind of explosive acceleration that only he seems capable of producing in these moments. The Jumbo-Visma leader timed his move to perfection, surging clear of the reduced group of contenders in the closing kilometers to take a superb stage victory.
Jonas Vingegaard, his Jumbo-Visma teammate, also featured prominently in the finale, with the pair working in devastating tandem to put pressure on their rivals throughout the climb. The GC battle was fierce, with several of the pre-race favorites cracking under the sustained pace set by the Jumbo-Visma train before the final attack was launched.
Tadej Pogacar was among those unable to follow the winning move, losing time to Roglic on the day and seeing his overall ambitions take a blow. The UAE Team Emirates leader will need to reassess his strategy heading into the final stages of the race.
The climb up to Prati di Tivo proved a brutal and fitting arena for such a decisive showdown, with the gradients sorting the contenders from the pretenders emphatically. The race remains very much alive heading into the final stages, but Roglic now holds a commanding position.
