What a stunning day of racing here in Italy as Primoz Roglic claimed a dominant victory on the summit finish at Lago di Fiastra. The Jumbo-Visma leader put in a devastating acceleration in the final kilometers that none of his rivals could match, further cementing his grip on the overall race lead.
The stage was marked by an early breakaway that animated the racing for much of the day. The escape group worked well together and built up a sizable advantage over the peloton, but the climbers' teams kept the situation under control as the race moved into the final challenging ascent of the day.
As the road tilted upward on the final climb, the peloton began to splinter, with the main general classification contenders moving to the front. Teams began to trade blows as riders who had been suffering earlier in the week started to crack under the sustained pace. The group of favorites was whittled down to a small select group with several kilometers still remaining.
Then came the moment that defined the stage. Roglic launched a powerful surge that immediately opened a gap, and once he had a few meters on his rivals, there was simply no bringing him back. He rode the final portion of the climb with clinical precision, crossing the line with his arms raised in celebration.
Behind him, the remaining contenders battled for the secondary placings, with small time gaps opening up that will have implications as the race heads toward its conclusion on the Adriatic coast.
