What a day of racing here in Italy as Stage 3 of Tirreno-Adriatico delivered a memorable finish. Primoz Roglic claimed the stage victory after a hard-fought battle on a challenging parcours that tested the peloton throughout the day.
The stage saw a breakaway establish itself early on, with a group of riders pushing clear of the peloton and building up a reasonable lead. The escapees worked well together, sharing turns and keeping the gap ticking over as the main field allowed them some room to breathe. However, the teams of the general classification contenders were never going to allow things to get out of hand, and the peloton kept the situation under control throughout the day.
As the race moved into its final phase, the break was gradually reeled in as the pace lifted at the front of the peloton. The finale brought a challenging climb into play, and that is where the real race began. The pure sprinters were dropped as the gradient bit, leaving it to the punchier, more explosive riders to contest the win.
Roglic, showing that he is in fine form, timed his effort to perfection. The Jumbo-Visma leader launched his sprint from distance and proved far too powerful for his rivals, crossing the line with authority to take a deserved victory. His win also did his overall ambitions no harm at all, further cementing his position as a firm favorite for the general classification as this race heads toward the Adriatic coast.
