The peloton tackled a challenging day in the hills as Stage 6 of Paris-Nice delivered another exciting chapter in this year's race. The stage featured a demanding parcours that tested the climbing abilities of the general classification contenders, and by the finish line, the race had shifted in significant ways.
Breakaway riders went clear early in the stage, as has been the pattern throughout this week, with a group establishing a solid gap over the peloton. The main field, controlled largely by the teams of the overall contenders, allowed the escape a reasonable advantage before the racing truly ignited on the final climbs of the day.
As the roads rose sharply in the closing kilometers, the overall contenders began to shed their rivals one by one. Matteo Jorgenson continued to impress, showing that his earlier performances in this race were no fluke. The Movistar rider has been one of the revelations of this Paris-Nice, demonstrating a maturity and climbing ability that has surprised many observers.
Sergio Higuita made his presence felt once again, and the battle for position among the favorites was fierce as riders pushed deep into their reserves on the punishing final ascent.
The stage result reshuffled the general classification standings, adding more intrigue to the final days of racing as Paris-Nice heads toward its conclusion on the Côte d'Azur. The overall battle remains very much alive with several riders still capable of taking the final victory in Nice.
