Jumbo Visma wins TTT

Jumbo Visma took a close victory ahead of EF Education EasyPost today in the 32.2km team time trial today, which launched Magnus Cort (EF Education-Easypost) into the yellow jersey. Cort is in yellow by 1 second ahead of Nathan Van Hooydonck (Jumbo-Visma) and four seconds ahead of Michael Matthews (Team Jayco – AlUla).

“I’m very happy, I didn’t know whether I could take the yellow jersey, but we had dreamt of doing something great," Cort said. "We had great ambitions so this is not totally unexpected. For the whole course it was uncertain, but we had to gather speed, take good turns and give it everything. Tomorrow it will certainly be hard to keep the jersey but of course I will do my best.”

Jumbo Visma finished the flat and fast course with a time of 33:55, ousting Jayco-Alula out of the hot seat after the squad had spent the majority of the race at the top of the leaderboard.

It’s incredible to have so many strong guys with me," Jonas Vingegaard said after the event. "Of course we’re very happy for the victory, it was a very good day for us and I’m thankful for the team. We don’t train so often for the team time trial. We trained a few times for this. Today we did a good job in training and in the race and it was quite smooth for us. Today was a very important stage. Maybe we hoped to gain even more. We took as much as we could."
