Race Recap
Pedersen wins stage 2 of Paris Nice
Mads Pedersen (Trek - Segafredo) took the win on stage two of the Race to the Sun in a nervous bunch gallop into Fontainebleau. Olav Kooij (Jumbo-Visma) finished just behind the former world champion in second and Magnus Cort (EF Education-Easypost) finished in third.
"It is nice to start the season well," Pedersen told reporters after the stage. "Paris-Nice is a really nice race so, of course, it is nice to get a win. It was a hectic sprint with a 10-km stretch and then a roundabout but the team did really well. It was tight in the end, really close. I’m happy that I got it."
Pedersen will wear the yellow jersey tomorrow for the team time trial as the new leader of Paris Nice. He's two seconds ahead of Tadej PogaÄŤar (UAE Team Emirates), who picked up his second 6-second time bonus in two days.
"It’s really nice to have the jersey, I’ve never tried that before in a race like this," Pedersen said. "It will be nice for the team time trial. We’re here for the GC with Mattias Skelkmjose so it’s really important that we do a really good time trial for him. If he wasn’t here we would just cruise and have a nice time."
