What a day of racing in the Flemish classics opener. Kuurne-Brussel-Kuurne has delivered a thrilling conclusion, with Christophe Laporte claiming a superb victory for Jumbo-Visma after a perfectly executed team performance throughout the day.
The race unfolded over the classic rolling roads of West Flanders, with a strong peloton setting out from Kuurne under conditions that tested the riders throughout the day. Several early attacks went clear from the off, with a breakaway group gaining a solid gap over the chasing peloton before the race situation really began to develop in the second half.
The final kilometres were explosive, with several teams positioning aggressively as the race approached its conclusion. Jumbo-Visma showed incredible strength and organisation, keeping Laporte protected and perfectly placed as the remnants of the peloton bore down on the finish line in Kuurne.
When the sprint finally opened up, Laporte proved absolutely unstoppable, powering to the line with that trademark explosive finishing speed that has made him one of the most feared sprinters in the peloton over recent seasons. It was a fully deserved win for a rider who has grown into one of the best classics performers in the world.
Behind Laporte, the sprint played out for the remaining podium positions, but there was no doubt about who the best man was today. Jumbo-Visma will head into the coming spring classics weeks with enormous confidence after this dominant display on the roads of Belgium.
