2023 Dwars door Vlaanderen Results & Recap
2023 Dwars door Vlaanderen is in the books. The final results and standings are below, followed by our recap of how the race unfolded.
Race Recap
What a spectacular edition of Dwars door Vlaanderen we have just witnessed. The race delivered everything you could possibly want from a Flemish semi-classic, with brutal climbs, relentless crosswinds, and a finish that had everyone on the edge of their seats.
Mathieu van der Poel was once again the dominant force in this race, putting in a performance that reminded everyone why he is considered one of the greatest classics riders of his generation. The Alpecin-Deceuninck leader controlled much of the key moments in the race and ultimately proved too strong for his rivals when it mattered most.
The race began to split apart in the familiar way these Flemish races do, with the peloton getting shredded by the combination of cobbled climbs and the vicious crosswinds that swept across the open Flemish countryside. Teams jostled for position throughout the middle portion of the race as the route wound its way through the iconic roads of the region.
The decisive selection came on the climbs that have made this race so famous, with the grupetto of favorites whittled down to a small group of elite riders. From there it became a battle of strength and tactics among the very best, and van der Poel showed his superiority by timing his effort to perfection.
It was another commanding victory for the Dutchman and sets him up beautifully for the bigger targets ahead this weekend, with the Tour of Flanders now firmly in his sights.
