Ciccone wins Dauphine finale

Giulio Ciccone (TFS) won the final stage of the 2023 Criterium du Dauphine after attacking on the Col de Porte and holding off the yellow jersey of Jonas Vingegaard on the final climb up to the Bastille Fortress. The Italian crossed the line 23 seconds ahead of Vingegaard, who put the nail in the coffin on his GC contenders by attacking his rivals on the final climb. Adam Yates finished third, 33 seconds back.

"I had 10 days off the bike, my condition wasn't 100% so started here with the Tour de France in the head but saw this week my condition getting better and better, so I'm really happy to close this week with a victory," Ciccone said. "The last 500 metres were really long, but with all the people there, it was really nice. I looked behind and saw I was still in front with some gap, so I just went straight. I'm really happy."

Jonas Vingegaard (TJV) had no trouble fending off pressure from UAE and Adam Yates (UAD) to seal his Dauphine bid.

"It’s a very big thing for me to to win this race, one of the biggest races in the world. So of course I’m very happy to win. Yates wanted to go fast on the final climb. Majka was on the front. I was feeling good and I tried in the end. I think I can be very satisfied with the whole week. I’m in a good shape and the whole team rode fantastically. In a way, I’m surprised with the gaps in the overall standings. Now I’ll relax a few days and then I’ll do the last bit of preparation for the Tour de France. I still have a little bit of work to do but it’s not a lot."
