Vingegaard takes lead of Dauphine
Jonas Vingegaard (Jumbo-Visma) showed he's ready to defend his Tour de France title at the Critérium du Dauphiné after attacking the GC group and never looked back to take the stage win and the overall lead of the race. The Danish phenom now leads the competition by 1:10 ahead of Ben O'Connor (AG2R Citroen).
"Actually, I didn’t want to attack today," Vingegaard said. "I wanted to defend myself and then they attacked. I was working with Richard [Carapaz]. And I managed to drop him. Of course I’m very happy with the win today… But I think on a day like today, with what happened in Annecy, it doesn’t really matter. Now that I have the jersey, I hope I can keep it in the next days. I’m in a good shape so maybe I can do it. With the gap that I have now, I can ride defensively."\n
