Meintjes wins stage 9

Louis Meintjes (Intermarché - Wanty - Gobert Matériaux) took a solo win atop the Les Praeres after 171km of racing in the Asturias region of Northern Spain. The 22-year-old South African is the second to take a win in the Spanish grand tour, the first being Robbie Hunter. Samuele Battistella (Astana Qazaqstan Team) finished second over a minute behind and Edoardo Zambanini (Bahrain - Victorious) was third over the line at 1'14".

Remco Evenepoel (Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl Team) attacked his GC rivals to cause a shake up in the overall standings. He's now 1'12 seconds ahead of Enric Mas (Movistar Team) and 1'53 on defending champion Primož Roglič (Jumbo-Visma).
