Race Recap
Brand takes final stage and overall
Lucinda Brand (Trek - Segafredo) held off a valiant attempt by Kristen Faulkner (Team BikeExchange - Jayco) to save her yellow jersey on the final stage of the Tour de Suisse in the closing kilometres, after attacking on the final climb and forcing Faulkner to chase. Chase she did, however, the American didn't have enough left in the tank to challenge Brand in the finale, and struggled to close down Brand's attack. The icing on the cake was when Faulkner slipped around one of the final chicanes, sealing in Brand's victory.
"It is fantastic," Brand said. "I'm just super happy, also very tired. It's just great to win a GC. I had to work for it, we had to work hard for it, so it is great to finish it off. When Kristen started to ride and the time went down so quickly, I was almost sure that she would come back," Brand said. "I was focused on not being dropped. I knew how technical the finish line was, so I knew that I had a bigger advantage and I just needed to hang on until the roads got more flat. Luckily it worked out."
