Higuita wins the queen stage
Sergio Higuita (BOH) won today's massive climbing stage in a reduced bunch containing the GC favorites. The Colombian went head to head with teammate Aleksandr Vlasov (BOH) in the final metres after the group closed down a late attack from youngster Einer Rubio (MOV). Juan Ayuso (UAE Emirates) took third place, moving him to second overall, 15 seconds back on Dennis.
"This stage win means a lot to me because I was really suffering out there. During the race I didn't feel so good due to allergies but in the finale I realised that I was stronger than the others and 200m before the finish I just went full gas. We knew we could take a win here and now it’s finally happened. I am also happy that Aleks rode really well today and was able to take second. I think he will put in a strong performance tomorrow in the time trial and I hope we can get a good result overall with him."
Rohan Dennis (TJV) continues to lead the overall heading into tomorrow's final TT - which just happens to be the Australian's specialty. With Ayuso in second and Vlasov moving up six places to third overall, 18 seconds back.
