Race Recap
Bevin takes the win on stage 3
Patrick Bevin (IPT) claimed the first WorldTour victory of the season for his Israel Premier Tech team today on stage 3 of the Tour de Romandie after a tight sprint out of a reduced field. The Kiwi moves into overall second on GC after scooping up the 10-second time bonus on the line. Ethan Hayter (IGD) continued dazzling, finishing second after winning the prologue and yesterday's stage.
“I knew this was a stage where I could be there at the finish and I really wanted to win this sprint. What a day,” Bevin said. "For a long time, I actually thought (the break) would stay away. I know how strong Krists is right now and I was happy to see him get up the road. He’s such a good teammate and he has done so much work for us. It’s great to see him in the KOM jersey now. All day long I was thinking about that last corner. It was all about that last corner. I cued up on the wheel of Ethan Hayter [INEOS] and it worked out perfectly. It simply couldn’t have gone any better. It’s not often that you have a plan in your head and you get to execute it like that. Today, it really worked out perfectly. It’s amazing.”
Rohan Dennis (TJV) finished the 168km race in third place, securing his overall race leader jersey for another day.
