The 2022 Tour de Romandie arrives as one of the final major tune-ups before the Giro d'Italia and serves as an important barometer for the form of the peloton's best stage racers as the spring campaign reaches its climax. The race takes place across five stages plus a prologue through the stunning Swiss landscape of French-speaking Switzerland, mixing punchy climbs, technical descents, and a demanding final mountain stage that should produce a worthy champion.

Richard Carapaz is another man to watch, the Ecuadorian climber relishing the Swiss mountains that suit his explosive style perfectly.
Primoz Roglic looms large over proceedings as ever, the Slovenian powerhouse capable of taking time in the time trial elements while also matching the best climbers on the steeper ascents. His Jumbo-Visma team gives him tremendous support and they will likely control much of the racing.
The mountain stages around Lake Geneva and the final summit finish should produce the decisive moments of the race, with gaps between the contenders likely to open when the road tilts skyward on the steeper gradients. Whoever can ride consistently across all six days and manage their energy carefully while seizing opportunities when they arise will be well placed to take the overall victory and head toward Italy in fine fettle.
