Course Preview

Stage 15 at Le Tour sets off from Mendez to finish in Carcassonne. Sprinters will look forward to this one, although the route is far from flat. The race is 202.5 kilometes long.

Five and seven editions ago, we saw two interesting stage finishes in Rodez. In 2017, Michael Matthews outgunned Greg Van Avermaet on the uphill arrival, while the former Olympic Champion bested Peter Sagan two years before that.

This time Rodez serves as the start hub of a transition stage to Carcassonne, a place in the foothills of the Pyrenees. The riders traverse undulating terrain and two sections stand out. The Côte d’Ambialet is a 4.4 kilometres climb at 4.6% and the Côte de Cammazes serves more of the same: 5.1 kilometres at 4.1%.

The CĂ´te de Cammazes is crested almost 50 kilometres before the finish. The route continues on rolling roads before descending onto a flat finale of 13 kilometres.

Last year, Mark Cavendish stormed to his 34th Tour de France stage win in Carcassone, thus equalling Eddy Merckx’s all-time record.
