Dylan van Baarle wins Paris Roubaix
Dylan van Baarle soloed to victory at Paris-Roubaix today after 257km of dry and dusty conditions. The Dutch rider broke away from challengers Matej Mohorič and Yves Lampaert right before the five-star sector Carrefour de l’Arbre and held off a chase group full of favorites into the iconic finish at Roubaix Velodrome with enough time to celebrate. Wout van Aer finished second after a four-up sprint, and Stefan Küng took third.
“It’s unbelievable. I couldn’t believe it when I came into the velodrome. I was completely alone," van Baarle said. "When the DS car came next to me, and then I started to believe in it. It’s been crazy,” van Baarle said. “It’s a monument, of course, I want to win a monument. To be second in Flanders and winning Roubaix, I am at a loss for words.”
