Wout Van Aert (TJV) wins Omloop Het Nieuwsblad
Wout Van Aert (TJV) stormed to victory today in Belgium, winning the opening race of the year in convincing fashion after attacking in the final kilometres, and holding off a large group of chasers for the solo win. Sonny Colbrelli (TBV) took second in the bunch gallop, and Greg Van Avermaet (ACT) was third.
“I didn’t think it would go so well in advance, but I was well prepared,” Van Aert said after the race. “It’s hard to say if I can stretch this shape to Roubaix, but purely in terms of intensity, there is still something to add. I was good, but the Ronde and Roubaix are even more important, so I hope I can improve a bit. Hopefully, we can build on this.”
