2022 Giro d'Italia Stage 8 Live Coverage
Welcome to our live coverage of Stage 8 of the 2022 Giro d'Italia! Our live profile and commentary are below, followed by a preview of the technical aspects of the route.
Course Preview
The 8th stage of the Giro d'Italia will be a criterium race in and around Napels. The lumpy route adds up to 149 kilometres.
The Giro did not return to the third largest city of Italy since the Grande Partenza of 2013. Back then, the 1st stage was a criterium race and Mark Cavendish turned out on top. The ManX Missile outgunned Elia Viviani and Nacer Bouhanni on the line.
This year’s Naples stage will also be a criterium, although the route is much hillier than in 2013. Each lap features climbs to Bacoli and the Monte di Procida on the Phlegraean peninsulta to the west of Napels.
The 19.2 kilometres circuit will be tackled fives times before the riders go back to Naples.
An irregular climb of 5 kilometres – peaking out at almost 10% – is crested on the Via Alessandro Manzoni with 10 kilometres to go. The riders descend to the waterfront to finish on the seaside promenade Via Fransesco Caracciolo.
