Course Preview

It's Friday the 13th and it's going to hurt. The 7th stage at the Giro travels from Diamante to Potenza and takes in an elevation gain of 4,490 metres, while the route amounts to 198 kilometres.

The only flat kilometres are the first 40. This section leads along the Golfo di Policastro and once the route turns inland the road goes either up or down for the rest of the day.

In order of appearance the riders tackle the Passo Colla (9.4 kilometres at 4.6%), Monte Sirino (27.6 kilometres at 4%), Montagna Grande di Viggiano (5.5 kilometres at 5.3%), Monte Scuro (6.1 kilometres at 9.7%) and La Sellata (9.1 kilometres at 5.1%) before reaching arrival place Potenza.

Still two minor yet decisive challenges to go. In Potenza the riders crest a 2.3 kilometer climb at 4.9% with 7 kilometres remaining before the last 500 metres also go up – at roughly 6%.
