Course Preview

The 2nd stage of the 2022 Giro d'Italia is an ITT in the streets of Budapest. The route serves an ascent of 1.3 kilometres to the line.

The starting ramp is situated in Hősök Tere, or Heroes' Square, a well-chosen place. The riders head to the Danube and continue along the river. The route passes the Parliament and turns left to cross the river. After another stint on the Danube, the riders turn right to climb to the old city on Castle Hill. The only intermediate time check is after 7.3 kilometer, just before the only climb.

The finish is at Szentháromság tér, or Holy Trinity Square. The ascent to the line is 1.3 kilometres long, and the average gradient sits at 5%. This is really is a biased statistic as the first 300 meters go up at 10% before the climb levels out.

Filippo Ganna stormed to the pink jersey on the ITTs of the two most recent editions of the Giro d'Italia.
