It is Damiano Caruso who conquers the stage and classification of the Giro di Sicilia 2022. The rider of the Italian national team has conquered Mount Etna at the end of a beautiful challenge with Vincenzo Nibali (Astana Qazaqstan), thus going to make a double blow by celebrating the victory alone. Riccardo Ciuccarelli (BIE), Mattia Bais (DRA), Simone Ravanelli (DRA), Yeisson Ferney Casallas Rincon (CTA), Lorenzo Ginestra (IWM), Alessio Nieri (BCF), Diego Rosa (EOK), Gabriele Petrelli (CTF), Cristian Scaroni (ITA), Simone Petilli (IWG), Gage Hecht (HPM) and Emil Dima (GTS), who quickly manage to gain about thirty seconds. David Martin Romero (+13: 50) (Eolo-Kometa Cycling Team), Pier Andre Cote (+1: 14) (Human Powered Health), Stefano Gandin (+18: 14) (Team Corratec) and Matteo Zurlo (+20: 12) (Zalf Euromobil Fior) are quickly joined by Filippo Fiorelli (+0: 23) (Bardiani CSF Faizanè), Michael Belleri (+21: 08) (Biesse-Carrera) and Nicola Venchiarutti (+9: 49) (Work Service - Vitalcare - Dynatek), while Rafael Steven Pineda Pineda (Colombia Tierra De Atletas Gw Shimano). The group, always led by the national team and from which the leader Miholjevic has in the meantime lost contact, in fact got very close to the attackers in the first part of the climb, thus neutralizing the escape just 10 kilometers from the finish. it is always the men of the national team, who provoke the failure of Domenico Pozzovivo (Intermarché-Wanty-Gobert Matériaux), one of the great favorites of the day.
