The details of this year's 2022 Dwars door Vlaanderen are falling into place. Find the latest route profiles and maps below, followed by our strategic preview of the race.
The spring classics season reaches a pivotal moment as the peloton lines up for Dwars door Vlaanderen, the mid-week race that cuts straight through the Flemish heartland and serves as the perfect dress rehearsal for the Tour of Flanders just days later. The race covers around 184 kilometres from Roeselare to Waregem, threading through the cobbled lanes and punchy climbs that define this corner of Belgium in late March.
The parcours features several of the bergs that will appear again on Sunday, meaning the big favourites for De Ronde will need to decide how much to commit here. The Taaienberg, the Kortekeer and the finishing circuits around Waregem give the race a sting in its tail that rewards punchy riders who can handle rough roads and repeated accelerations.
Mathieu van der Poel arrives in superb form after his return from injury and will be watched closely, though his team will be mindful of protecting him for the bigger prize at the weekend. Wout van Aert is another whose presence transforms any race he enters, and the Belgian champion will be eager to put on a show in front of his home fans. Kasper Asgreen, the reigning Tour of Flanders champion, represents a genuine threat and has shown an ability to win races of this nature before.
Expect Jumbo-Visma and Alpecin-Fenix to control large portions of the race while Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl and Trek-Segafredo probe for opportunities. A reduced front group seems the most likely scenario heading into the final kilometres, where one explosive acceleration on the closing roads could decide everything.
