Race Recap
Verona wins stage 7
Carlos Verona (Movistar Team) played his cards right to take stage 7 of the Criterium du Dauphine, attacking on the final climb and holding off a surging Primož Roglič (Jumbo-Visma). Roglic took second and the yellow and blue jersey from his teammate, Wout Van Aert (Jumbo-Visma). Van Aert lost more than seven minutes on the alpine stage. Jonas Vingegaard was third.
"The plan was to defend our position in GC. It was a long day and we had been pulling at the front already the whole week," Van Aert said. "We wanted to have a good beakaway and take it a bit more easy in the end. But it was a really hectic start with a lot of attacks. And in the end, some teams still tried to go for the stage but it was too late. For us everything went according to plan.
My climbing legs are not too bad, it’s been up and down already the whole week but for sure it will be different tomorrow. Of course we have Primoz who is doing really well and tomorrow a new race starts."
