Race Recap
Ganna wins stage 4 TT
World champion Filippo Ganna (Ineos Grenadiers) won stage 4 of the Critérium du Dauphiné at La Bâtie d’Urfé by just two seconds ahead of a surging Wout Van Aert (Jumbo Visma). Ganna crossed the line with a time of 35:32, which is an average speed of almost 54kkph. The Belgian was 10 seconds behind the Italian at the second time check but came back to lose by the slenderest of margins. Ineos Grenadiers' Ethan Hayter finished third on the 31km time trial route and moved into the best young rider jersey with a time of 35:49.
"Every time we are close," Ganna said. "Van Aert is very strong, yesterday he was already really close to victory. He’s a superb athlete and we can only say chapeau to him. It was a pretty good course for me. This morning, when we saw it was raining, I thought it was not gonna be a good day, but luckily the Sun came and we had the same conditions for all the riders. Copenhagen is coming close, but I have to wait and see if I’ll be there."
