The sprinters must be confused. Are they really racing La Vuelta with this many chances to shine? Yes, they are. Stage 13 travels on the flat from Belmez to Villanueva. The race adds up to 203.7 kilometres.

There are zero KOM points on offer on the way from Belmez, Andalucía, to Villanueva de la Serena in the region of Extremadura. The biggest obstacle will undoubtedly be the heat. The summers in both Andalucía and Extremadura notoriously hot and dry.

La Vuelta never before visited Belmez. Same goes for Villanueva de la Serena.

Given the flat route, a bunch sprint is next to certain. Pascal Ackermann was the most successful sprinter in last year’s La Vuelta. The German pocketed two stages.

The first three riders on the line gain time bonuses of 10, 6 and 4 seconds.

The 13th stage of La Vuelta starts 12.18 and the race is expected to finish around 17.30 – both are local times.
