Race Recap
Tadej Pogačar wins Lombardy
Tadej Pogačar won the storied Tour of Lombardy after a long range attack from 40km out. He was joined by Fausto Masnada after a 15-kilometre pursuit, but eventually out powered the local Italian favorite in the sprint to the line.
“In this second part of the season, I have been one day good, one day not – and today was a good day. It's crazy. After all the season it's crazy to finish the season like this. I'm without words,” Pogacar said. "For me every victory is important. Especially this one because I've been dreaming to start Lombardia and race with the best here in Italy for a long time. Now I'm here and I took the victory, it's just crazy.
"I thought, when I attacked, that someone would come with me, but I guess it had been so hard before that, everyone was just thinking about making it to the final. So I went solo. I knew that he (Masnada) would be coming back on the technical part of the descent because it’s my first time here. What I didn’t know was that he was not going to work with me. Luckily we had a big enough advantage by the final climb to hold off the chasers.”
