2021 Tour de Romandie Stage 5 Results & Recap
Stage 5 of the 2021 Tour de Romandie is in the books. The final results and standings are below, followed by our recap of how the race unfolded.

Thomas wins Tour de Romandie
Geraint Thomas (Ineos Grenadiers) won the Tour de Romandie overall title after a blistering time trial performance in Fribourg. Thomas completed the 16km course to eventually claim the overall title by 28 seconds ahead of his teammate, Richie Porte. Fausto Masnada (Deceuninck - Quick-Step) took third at 38 seconds, one second ahead Marc Soler (Movistar) who dropped to fourth.
“I’m very happy, especially after the old mishap yesterday. That definitely made it more of a challenge today,” said Thomas. “Me and Richie came here wanting to win the race with one of us, and now we’re first and second, so can’t complain. To be honest, it kind of reminded me of when I won the Tour de France [in 2018], the last TT was kind of like this, with the director on the radio telling me not to do anything stupid. You start to overthink it a bit them but I’m really happy to finish it off. It’s been a great week for the team.”
French champion RĂ©mi Cavagna (Deceuninck - Quick-Step) took a commanding stage win with a time of 21:54. Stefan Bissegger finished six seconds behind and Thomas took third at 17 seconds.
“The parcours didn’t really suit me, as it had some technical parts and steep sections, but I was very motivated to do well and conclude the week on a high note," Cavagna said. "I am very happy because Romandie is a beautiful race and to get my first victory of the season here feels great. Today I gave 200% and I got a result that gives me a huge boost of confidence ahead of the Giro d’Italia, where I have some personal goals, but I also want to help the team.”\n
