Race Recap
Van Aert wins final stage of the Tour de France
Wout Van Aert (Jumbo-Visma) denied Mark Cavendish (Deceuninck - Quick-Step) his record-breaking 35th win at the Tour de France in Paris this evening, outsprinting the green jersey after some confusion with his flawless lead-out train. Jasper Philipsen (Alpecin-Fenix) took second on the final day of the Tour de France while Cavendish had to settle for third place on the 21st stage.
"Actually, I can’t believe it. This Tour de France has been amazing. It has been such a rollercoaster. To finish with three victories in my pocket is just out of my expectations. A victory like this is priceless, although I have to catch my flight to Tokyo tonight. Thanks to my small team and especially to Mike Teunissen, who put me in the perfect position ahead of the sprint. It was key to be delivered in a good position after the final right-hand turn. I was confident Mike could do it, and he did it perfectly."
Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates) wins the 108th Tour de France, his second malliot jeune in a row after defeating PrimoĹľ Roglic (Jumbo-Visma) in 2020. The young Slovenian beat Jonas Vingegaard (Jumbo-Visma), who had an excellent debut, and Richard Carapaz (Ineos Grenadiers), the first Ecuadorian to reach the Tour de France podium.
