Stage 7 of the 2021 Tirreno-Adriatico is in the books. The final results and standings are below, followed by our recap of how the race unfolded.
Race Recap
The final stage of this year's Tirreno-Adriatico has come to a close on the Adriatic coast in San Benedetto del Tronto, and it was a day that ended in the expected bunch sprint finish after a week of hard racing through the Italian peninsula.
The stage itself was relatively flat and straightforward, serving as something of a processional to close out the race, with the overall classification already decided heading into the day. The breakaway of the day went clear early, as is typical for this kind of stage, and the escapees enjoyed some time out front before the peloton reeled them back in as the finish approached.
In the sprint, Caleb Ewan of Lotto Soudal showed his exceptional finishing speed, timing his effort perfectly to take the stage victory and give himself and his team a strong result to end the race with. It was a fine display of sprinting in a chaotic finish on the seafront promenade.
Meanwhile, the overall classification was sealed by Tadej Pogacar, who had already put the race beyond doubt with his commanding performances earlier in the week, including his stunning ride on the San Giacomo climb. The young Slovenian and reigning Tour de France champion confirmed once again that he is in absolutely brilliant form this spring, taking the overall title with authority and leaving his rivals with very little they could do to match him throughout the week.
