Race Recap
Ewan fastest on stage 7
Caleb Ewan (Lotto Soudal) took his second win in a week at the Giro d'Itaalia today after charging to the line unmatched in Termoli. The Australian's victory gave Lotto Soudal its 30th stage win of the Corsa Rosa. Davide Cimolai (Israel Start-up Nation) and Tim Merlier (Alpecin-Fenix) took the remaining podium spots.
“After the disappointment of missing out on the first sprint opportunity, this victory gives me great satisfaction," Ewan said. “There was quite some pressure on myself and the team to get a good result today, so this win kind of feels like a relief. I wanted it so badly and to finish off the superb teamwork really is a great feeling. In my mission to win a stage in every Grand Tour this year, I can now tick off a stage at the Giro. But of course, I’m always hungry for more. This gives me and the whole team a confidence boost for the stages to come.”
Attila Valter (Groupama - FDJ) is still in the pink jersey after a fairly uneventual day out. He still leads Remco Evenepoel (Deceuninck - Quick-Step) by 11 seconds in the general classification, with a testing GC day coming up tomorrow.
