Course Preview

The 3rd stage of the Giro d'Italia is a 190 kilometres race to Canale. Following a virtually flat opening, the route continues onto more lumpy terrain in the last 70 kilometres.

The first 115 kilometres are flat to undulating and then the Bric delle Forchi appears. The 5 kilometres climb goes up at around 6%. Some 20 kilometers later the next hill is 4 kilometres at 6%. The downhill leads straight onto the third uphill test. Again a gradient of approximately 6%, while the ascent is 5 kilometres long.

With 40 kilometres remaining the riders descend to Alba and the route continues on the flat to a 2.6 ascent at 7.1% that’s crested inside the last 15 kilometres. The climb is pepped up with a steepest section just before the top in Guarene.

In theory, the punchy climb is a perfect place to launch a late attack, while another short ramp – at 12% – appears in Occhetti, roughly 5 kilometres before the line.

The second intermediate sprint – in Guarene! – comes with 3, 2 and 1 seconds, while time bonuses of 10, 6 and 4 seconds are awarded to the first three riders on the line.

The 3rd stage of the Giro d’Italia starts at 12.20 and the race is expected to finish around 17.15 – both are local times (CEST).
