Sagan victorious on stage 10
Peter Sagan (Bora-Hansgrohe) powered to a stage 10 win today at the Giro d'Italia ahead of Fernando Gaviria (UAE Team Emirates). Davide Cimolai (Israel Start-up Nation) \ntook third after a tough 139km stage from l'Aquila to Foligno.
"For sure – today I think was a very good day for us," Sagan said after the race. "We tried our best, and in the end, I won and I'm very happy for that. I have to say thanks to all my teammates. When Caleb Ewan won the second stage, I was very good. It was an uphill and I had very good legs. I started from a little back and I had good speed, but I was closed on the barriers and luckily, I didn't crash. Today I'm very happy to win a stage like this. It was a great effort from all the team. Day by day – we still have halfway to go and I will try my best [for the points jersey]."
Egan Bernal (Ineos Grenadiers). came into Foligno safe in the pink jersey, however he lost a second to his 15 second GC lead after Remco Evenepoel (Deceuninck-QuickStep) pipped him at the second intermediate sprint of the day.
"I was just following Pipo (Ganna). I saw the opportunity and I went behind him. If you are following him it is a lot easier," Bernal said in a post race release. "I just took one second but I didn’t make any effort so why not? We are here also to enjoy the race and we are doing that. (The stage) was actually really hard. Bora did a really great job heading into the climb. They did a really, really hard pace. I think everyone was full gas. It was harder than we expected this morning but finally we came through the day and we are happy because of that."
