Race Recap
Lutsenko wins time trial at Dauphine
Alexey Lutsenko (APT) won the time trial today at the Critérium du Dauphiné, crushing the 16.4km route, between Firminy and Roche-la-Molière, in a time of 21:36. His teammate, Ion Izaguirre, finished eight seconds behind and Kasper Asgreen (Deceuninck-QuickStep) took third at nine seconds.
“It might be a surprise but I did my maximum,” said Lutsenko. “I’ve done a lot of work on my TT bike at altitude at Teide, and the up and down courses are perfect for me. This kind of course, 16 kilometres of up and down is perfect for me. In the first six kilometres I went a bit slower and saved some energy and then in the last six to seven kilometres I went full, full gas. In the final, I just did my absolute maximum, 200 percent. To be only one second off the yellow jersey is a bit disappointing but the Dauphiné isn’t finished and I will fight to get the yellow jersey. Maybe tomorrow, maybe the day after in the mountains.”
Lukas Pöstlberger (BOH) remains in the yellow and blue jersey, but hangs on to his lead barely, by one second ahead of Lutsenko. Asgreen (Deceuninck-QuickStep) is in third at nine seconds.
"It was incredibly hard. I paced it perfectly for my possibility. To keep the jersey for 1’’, that close, it’s amazing. I’m gonna make a family of lions for my son! Tomorrow is gonna be a different story, with the whole team involved again. When there is a proper GC battle, I know I will lose my jersey at some point."\n
