Colbrelli wins stage 3
Sonny Colbrelli (TBV) won stage 3 of the Critérium du Dauphiné after a 172km jaunt from Langeac to Sant-Haon-Le-Vieux today. The win came after a series of second places plagued the Italian, making this uphill sprint victory a special one for the Italian. Alex Aranburu (Astana Premier Tech) finished second and Brandon McNulty (UAE Team Emirates) finished third.
"After two places of second, I really wanted to take a beautiful win. I can thank my team, they worked perfectly. The final kilometre was very hard. [Michal] Kwiatkowski pulled really hard until the last 300m. Then [Alex] Aranburu went very strong, I followed his wheel and it worked well for me."
Lukas Pöstlberger (Bora- Hansgrohe) still leads the GC after three days in the Rhone-Alps. The German is two seconds ahead of Colbrelli, and Aranburu is third at 18 seconds.
"Today I was really tired from the effort yesterday. I went on the roller before the stage and actually thought it’s ok, but after a while I felt really empty in the race. But my team did a great job to control the race and they brought me well protected to the last kilometer. I wanted to lead out the sprint then but was too tired and in the end happy to don’t lose any seconds on that uphill stretch. Tomorrow will be kind of a mission impossible, but we’ll see how the legs are and for sure try our best again." \n
