What a day in the north of France. The cobbles of the Hell of the North delivered once again, serving up drama, suffering, and ultimately a stunning victory that will be talked about for years to come.

Sonny Colbrelli crossed the line in absolute triumph, throwing his arms wide and collapsing to the ground in tears as the emotion of the moment overwhelmed him. The Italian champion produced a masterful display of strength and tactical intelligence across the grueling pavé sectors to claim the biggest win of his career.

The race was everything you could hope for from Paris-Roubaix. The peloton set off at a furious pace and the attrition began almost immediately as riders started to lose contact on the early cobbled sectors. Crashes and mechanical issues thinned the field considerably, and by the time the race reached the critical sectors in the Arenberg Forest the leading group had been whittled down to a select few.

Mathieu van der Poel was a constant presence near the front, the Dutchman looking dangerous and riding with the kind of aggressive confidence that has defined his emergence as one of cycling's great talents. He was in the mix throughout the crucial late stages and pushed hard to try to put the race beyond reach.

Florian Vermeersch rode an exceptional race to take second place, the young Belgian showing tremendous composure and power on the cobbles. His performance was a genuine revelation and announced him as a serious classics contender for the future.

Colbrelli though was simply irresistible. In the velodrome sprint he was the strongest and he knew it.
