Course Preview

The GC will have some definition after the mid-race ITT of Paris-Nice. The 15.1 kilometres route is lumpy and technical. A short climb and descent lead onto an uphill drag towards the halfway mark, while the second part runs false flat downhill to a flat finale.

The riders roll down the podium and the route starts with a 2 kilometres climb at 4.1%. Following a sharp descent and a flat kilometre the riders tackle the steepest kilometre at 6.7% before the climb continues with 1 kilometre at 4.5% before leveling out to a false flat. A long downhill leads onto a flat run-in of 3 kilometres to the line.

Given the technical nature of the twisting route, this ITT will be a stern test. The race takes place in Julian Alaphilippe’s birthplace: Saint-Amand-Montrond.

Simon Yates seized a surprise victory in last year’s ITT on Paris-Nice. He finished 7 seconds ahead of Nils Politt and 11 seconds ahead of Michal Kwiatkowski on the 25.5 kilometres course outside Barbentane. Eventual race winner Egan Bernal finished in fourth.
