Race Recap
Geoghegan Hart wins 2020 Giro d'Italia
Tao Geoghegan Hart (Ineos Grenadiers) tamed the overwhelming pressure of starting the final stage of the 2020 Giro d'Italia tied with race leader Jai Hindley (Sunweb) today in Milan, pulling out a superior time trial to overtake the Australian by 39 seconds to take the Giro overall victory and the beautiful Tofeo Senza Fine. Hindley's teammate, Wilco Kelderman held on for third place overall.
Geoghegan Hart's teammate, Filippo Ganna, claimed first place in the 15.7 time trial, besting Victor Campenaerts (NTT) by 31 seconds. Third was Rohan Dennis (Ineos), just one second slower than the world hour record holder. Ganna won all three time trials at the Giro d'Italia, as well as an impressive stage on the road.
The Londoner finished the 15.7km flat and fast course with a time of 18:14 just before Hindley finished his effort, and had time to watch as the pink jersey couldn't match his performance.
