Welcome to our live coverage of Stage 4 of the 2020 Critérium du Dauphiné! Our live profile and commentary are below, followed by a preview of the technical aspects of the route.
Course Preview
At 157 kilometres, the riders face no less than seven climbs in the 4th stage of the Critérium du Dauphiné. The elevation gain is 4,700 metres. For GC-battle aficionados!
Three out of seven climbs are 1st category, while there is also an hors catégorie ascent. So stage 4 is definitely a race to look forward to.
Shortly after the flag is dropped the riders tackle the Col de l’Épine, the first category-1 climb, which comes with the following statistics: 6 kilometres at 7.9%. A rolling descent leads to the foot of the Col de Plan Bois – also category-1, but harder: 6.3 kilometres at 9.5% and ramps up to 15%.
The downhill of the Plan Bois leads onto the last category-1 ascent. The Col de la Croix Fry is a tough test of 6.6 kilometres at 7.9% before a short descent makes way for the Col des Aravis: 4.3 kilometres at 5.5%.
Time for a breather, finally. A downhill of 16 kilometres takes the riders to the foot of the Côte d’Héry-sur-Ugine, which is an ugly thing of 2.7 kilometres at 8.8%. The route descends further and moves through start place Ugine before gently starting to climb again in Albertville.
Following some 15 kilometres of false flat and a short descent the HC-ascent of the day takes the shape of the Montée de Bisanne: 12.4 kilometres at 8.2%. The riders fly down a 20 kilometres downhill to Praz-sur-Arly, which is where the final haul up to the Megève altiport begins. The last 7.4 kilometres go up at 4.7%.
